A 24-YEAR-OLD driver had to be cut free from his vehicle after he lost control at the notorious Alpine Corner bend near Honley.

The crash happened at around 1.30am yesterday in Woodhead Road close to the junction with Magdale when the Peugeot 307 hit the central bollards and spun out of control.

No other vehicles were involved.

Fire crews from Huddersfield were called to the scene and helped release the driver who was suffering from suspected spinal injuries.

Watch Commander at Huddersfield Fire Station Darren Bagley said: "The car appears to have come round the corner at speed and lost control before colliding with the central bollards.

"They are 90 degree bends and need to be treated as such.
