Homeless man harassed his mum as he lived in her garden shed

A HOMELESS man living in his mother’s garden shed repeatedly harassed her, a court has heard.

Aaron Turner spent days ringing and knocking on the door of his frail mum, Anne, demanding food and money.

Yesterday Huddersfield magistrates were told that towards the end of August the 40-year-old found himself homeless and went to live in a neighbour’s shed.

But when the neighbour said he could no longer stay there he moved into his mother’s outhouse in the garden of her home in Copley Avenue, Meltham.

But between September 1 and September 7 he started to cause the 69-year-old distress by ringing her buzzer and banging on the door as he shouted abuse at her.

On September 4 Turner rang the buzzer 21 times, causing police to warn him to stop.

His mother gave him food and cash to keep away but he kept returning for more and police were called again.

Magistrates were told that Mrs Turner was tired by the persistent harassment. Two years ago she had suffered a brain haemorrhage which left her with disabilities.

She said that her son, who has mental health problems, had his benefits collected by his family because he couldn’t manage his own affairs.

However, when the money ran out he kept coming back for more.
