MANY people never have enough room for pudding after their Christmas dinner.
But now they don’t have to miss out – a Lindley-based cake maker has created a Christmas cake which is also a Christmas dinner.
Allison Whitmarsh, of Proper Maid, has created a Christmas dinner cake made from all the Christmas dinner trimmings.
Carrots, parsnips, cranberries, chestnuts, spices and sprouts all go into the cake, which is topped off with a cream cheese frosting, an orange marmalade filling and is decorated with cranberries and white chocolate curls.
Allison explained: “It’s an unusual concept but one which I was asked to do and have really enjoyed creating.
“I looked at what was in a Christmas dinner and started putting the ingredients together.
“It was trial and error at first. It’s based on our carrot cake recipe but with the extra vegetables.
“The first cake went straight into the bin as there were too many sprouts in it – it’s such a dominant flavour so we reduced the quantity.
“The second cake we made was much better and it’s now got the right balance of flavours.
“Vegetables are great in cakes, but I’ve never put an entire meal in one.”
