A HUDDERSFIELD Town supporter who hurled abuse at fans from a rival team has been banned from football matches for three years.

Aaron Childs, 19, was given the football banning order by Huddersfield magistrates yesterday.

The ban prevents him from attending all Huddersfield Town matches as well as games in England and Wales. Magistrates were told how the teenager, of Chestnut Street in Sheepridge, shouted and swore at Tranmere Rovers supporters as they left a game at the Galpharm Stadium.

He followed supporters to St George’s Square as they tried to get home and even caused one group of shoppers to run away in fear.

Magistrates were told the teenager was already banned by Town from attending matches following his ‘aggressive’ behaviour at games. They heard that police had been monitoring Childs for the last two years.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said that on September 10 an officer from Merseyside Police was guiding a number of supporters away from the stadium when he noticed Childs. She said: “His attention was drawn to one particular group of 10 to 15 males shouting towards supporters.

The defendant was a member of that group (and) was shouting and gesturing in an aggressive manner towards the football supporters.”
