Huddersfield Town v Oldham game to raise awareness of organ donation

A HUDDERSFIELD Town worker is urging fans to become organ donors in memory of her husband.

Ticket office manager Sue Beaumont is hoping scores of football supporters will sign the organ donation register at this week’s home League One game against Oldham Athletic.

The match will be aimed at raising awareness for the life-saving cause.

Linthwaite man Craig Wimpenny – who had a heart transplant last year – will be guest of honour at the game.

And a handful of Town players have already signed up to become donors in the future.

They include goalkeeper Ian Bennett, striker Alan Lee and hotshot forward Jordan Rhodes, who hit a stunning five goals in Town’s 6-0 win at Wycombe on Friday.

Sue, of Highburton, stressed the importance of discussing the decision with loved ones beforehand.

The mum-of-two lost her husband Charlie in 2010 after he suffered a massive heart attack.

Sue, who was married to Charlie for 31 years, said: “We had talked about it and had talked about it with the family.

“We were fortunate in that he was unconscious for three days on life support, so we had chance to discuss it again.
