A MAN has appeared in court over the throttling of the mother of his child in a jealous rage over text messages.
Jermaine Allert broke his bail conditions not to contact Carol Evans or go near her home, Huddersfield magistrates heard.
The 26-year-old was before magistrates yesterday in custody.
The bench was told that he attacked his ex, with whom he has a five-month- old daughter, on New Year’s Eve.
Carole Lawford, prosecuting, said that the couple had separated but on that date they had both been drinking at a friend’s house.
They left together with their daughter and went back to his flat at Holme Park Court in Berry Brow.
Ms Lawford said: “In the early hours of the morning she fell asleep but was woken by the defendant.
“He was shouting at her: ‘Tell me the truth’. He was accusing her of seeing her housemate.
“During the argument he grabbed her by the throat and squeezed tight. She passed out.
“When she came round she saw him sitting in the corner of the room acting in a strange manner.
“She asked to leave but the door was locked and there was no key.”
Ms Lawford said that Miss Evans was stuck in the flat for an hour.
When she was able to leave, Allert made superficial cuts to his wrists and attended hospital.
