A LANDMARK Huddersfield pub has re-opened – thanks to people power.
A couple running The Junction, Marsh, has raised the shutters once again following a refurbishment – courtesy of the regulars.
Emily and Lee Scott thought they had called last orders for the final time in September after an ongoing battle with brewery, Enterprise Inns.
But with overwhelming support from the Marsh community and local businesses, the couple are back behind the bar.
Emily said: “We closed on September 25, after being at the pub for nine years, as a discount that we had always had was taken away.
“Without the discount, it meant that we were unable to carry on and pint prices would be around £4.
“We could no longer afford to run the pub.
“But after several weeks Enterprise contacted us and asked if we wanted to come back.
“When the community heard that there was talk of us coming back, they got a petition together which said that The Junction was a community pub and that we, as the landlords, had helped make it that way.
“We were so humbled by their support.”
After more than three months of discussions with Enterprise Inns, the couple agreed to come back and secured a deal that would allow them to operate once again.
But before they could open their doors, they knew the pub needed further investment which the brewery was unable to provide.
