WORK to repair this damaged traffic island has ground to a sudden halt.

In December the bollards on Manchester Road in Slaithwaite were damaged during an accident.

Kirklees Highways removed the bollards and centre pole and covered up the holes with a traffic cone weighed down by a sandbag.

But it’s been left unrepaired for more than a month.

One Marsden resident told the Examiner the upturned traffic cones were not a suitable warning to drivers of an obstacle along the dark road.

But Kirklees Highways say it will soon be fixed.

A spokeswoman said: “Both bollards and a centre pole on the traffic island were damaged in an accident last year and we plan to replace this by February 3 with new equipment.

“Temporary cones and signs are on the site as a safety measure in the meantime.”
