THE man who killed former soldier Gary Pedelty in a car crash has been jailed for four years today.

Mr Pedelty, 24, of Meltham, died in November last year after his Mazda 323 was hit head-on by a Peugeot 206 being driven by 38-year-old Richard Mail on Huddersfield Road in Meltham.

Mail, of Copley Avenue, Meltham, had already entered a guilty plea to the charge of causing death by careless driving while over the prescribed limit.
At a court appearance in December, it was revealed Mail had drunk five pints of lager before driving off on the night of the accident.

Former Honley High School pupil Mr Pedelty had served in the 3rd Yorkshire Regiment and had seen action in a gruelling tour of Iraq. He was also a well-respected sportsman and a member of the Meltham All Blacks amateur rugby league team alongside his brother Jason.
