A VILLAGE campaign group says it will supply residents with the ‘full facts’ on a controversial supermarket plan.

Keep Holmfirth Special (KHS) has sent a letter to about 15,000 Holmfirth and Holme Valley residents ‘setting out the full facts’ about Tesco’s plans to build a supermarket on the former Midlothian Garage site, off New Mill Road.

Keep Holmfirth Special (KHS), which was set up by the town’s traders and residents, has carried out research on the development and the impact it could have on Holmfirth’s businesses and roads.

The group has said it welcomes a new store but has serious concerns about the size and out-of-town location of the proposed supermarket.

KHS chair Margaret Dale said: “As an organisation made up of people from Holmfirth, we feel it’s vital that everyone has access to the full facts on matters that affect their environment, their town centre and their local businesses.

“But we are also keen to canvas local opinion. We are not anti-Tesco and we would welcome a smaller, centrally located store.”

Tesco had earlier mounted a similar mailshot, sending newsletters extolling the benefits of the new store to thousands of homes.
