A SECOND Birkby businessman who is said to have built unauthorised extensions to his house may be forced to take them down.
Wasim Latif, of Thanes Close, received planning permission from Kirklees Council in 2008 to build an office with a garage in his back garden.
But it is suspected that the building has been built bigger than was allowed, the council has said.
It is also alleged that Mr Latif has built a conservatory, linking the house to the office, as well as a front garden wall and porch without planning permission.
It comes after Birkby businessman, Abdul Hafiz, of Inglewood Avenue, may have to dismantle unauthorised extensions to his ‘LA-style’ mansion after he lost his appeal against the council.
Mr Latif’s neighbour, Peter Regan, says the office has been overshadowing his garden.
Mr Regan, a foster carer, said: “We’ve no view at all. It blocks out the sun in our back garden. You can’t sit out now.
“It looks like they’ve built another house in the back garden
“If it were me I’d get the planning permission first.
“I was told according to the original deeds that the street is supposed to be open plan and he’s put a great big wall in.
“We can’t get the car up the drive anymore because of the wall as we can’t open the doors.”
A spokesperson for Kirklees Council said: “There are a number of suspected breaches of planning control, including the porch, outbuilding and conservatory. Officers will be challenging the owner to resolve these matters.
“From initial investigations it does appear that planning permission is required for these works and we will be contacting the owner to inform them of the alleged breach.”
A spokesman for Mr Latif said the family would co-operate with the council
He said: “We don’t want to be upsetting our neighbours. Sometimes when you’re building things there can be complications.
“We want to bring this matter to an amicable conclusion.”
