A TEACHER accused of having sex with a pupil visited him at university and paid off his university debts, a jury heard.
It is alleged that Peter Smith, 38, of Pilling Lane, Scissett, abused his position of trust between December 2006 and June 2007 after grooming a teenage pupil and having sex with him.
But the defence has claimed the sex between the pair happened in 2009, when Smith was no longer in a position of trust.
Yesterday the student, who is now in his early 20s, was cross-examined at Leeds Crown Court by the defence.
Peter Pimm, defending, asked the student, who cannot be named for legal reasons, about the time he allegedly entered father-of-two Smith’s marital bedroom.
The jury was issued with pictures from an estate agent who was helping to sell Smith’s home at the time of the alleged “abuse of trust”.
Mr PimmŠ said: “This is the bedroom Mr Smith and his wife used in 2007, where you say you had sex and have in interview described in detail.
“What colour are the carpets?”
The student replied that the carpets were green, to which Mr Pimm continued: “You told the police the carpets were green but the bedroom they had in 2007 had cream carpets.
“The bedroom they moved to in 2009 had net curtains and green carpet; that is where you had sex with him, in 2009”.”
