Brave Ruddi’s double celebration
IT’S a double celebration for three-year-old Ruddi Waterworth-Jones.
The brave cancer fighter has just marked two years in remission from an illness that almost claimed his young life.
And a charity set up in his name – Ruddi’s Retreat – will be able to help other sick children enjoy family holidays thanks to a £20,000 donation from a kind-hearted businessman.
The money – given by a Huddersfield man who doesn’t want to be named – has helped buy the first static caravan at Primrose Valley, near Filey.

Mum Ali Jones, 40, cried when she heard the news.
She said: “I cannot believe my dream has come true. This is what we have been aiming for.
“It is hugely important because these respite holidays are really needed.
“Just getting a few days away from the hospital as a family means such a lot and really bonds you as a family.
“I just burst into tears when I heard he was buying it for us. Hopefully it will be the first of many so we can help as many people as possible.”
The three-bedroom static caravan now needs adapting to make it suitable for children undergoing cancer treatment.
In the meantime, families are being invited to apply online for a much-needed break by visiting the charity’s website.
Ali, of Longwood, hopes to be able to welcome the first family there this April.
“We still have a massive mountain to climb,” she said.
“There is a lot of fundraising to do and we would appeal for anyone who thinks they can help us to please get in touch.
