Scissett teacher Peter Smith says sex started after boy left school

A TEACHER admits having sex with a former pupil at the home he shared with his wife and children.

But Peter Smith, of Pilling Lane in Scissett, denies anything sexual happened with the male pupil when he was under the age of consent, and still a student at the school where he taught.

Smith, 38, appeared at Leeds Crown Court yesterday to give evidence in the trial against him.

The father-of-two denies grooming the 15-year-old pupil and inviting him into his office at the school to grope and kiss him.

He also denies engaging in anything sexual with the boy while on a school trip.

The married man says the sexual affair only started in 2009 when he was no longer a teacher at the school.

Smith, who went on to be deputy head at another school, was asked by prosecuting barrister Rob Mairs if he had sexual contact with the boy while on a school trip.

Smith answered: “Absolutely not – there wasn’t the time for one thing – but absolutely not.”

Another adult who was present on the school trip, but cannot be named for legal reasons, told the court she trusted Smith and she couldn’t recall a time when the teacher had been alone with any of the pupils during the holiday.
