RESIDENTS will try to block speed bumps being installed on a busy road this week.
Kirklees Council wants to slow traffic on the 30mph Birkby Hall Road by installing 10 bumps, a pair of speed cushions and a junction plateau.
Ten residents spoke out against the plan during a consultation. The objections include the following:
Measures would make it harder for ambulances.
Wear and tear on vehicles would be “horrendous”.
The measures would lead to more noise.
Bumps would make the road harder to grit.
But, councillors representing the area support the plan, including Lindley Lib Dem Clr Cahal Burke, who said: “I am reasonably satisfied that the concerns of residents have been acknowledged and I support the scheme.”
The council cabinet committee will rule on the proposal at Huddersfield Town Hall on Wednesday.
