A MOVING video tribute to fallen Huddersfield soldier Daniel Wilford has been posted on Youtube.

The montage was created by Tim Marsden, whose son Tom and daughter Kate, were close to the Cowlersley Private, known to his friends as Wilf.

Pte Wilford, 21, was with five other soldiers on Tuesday when the Warrior armoured vehicle they were travelling in blew up after apparently striking an improvised explosive device (IED) in Helmand.

Sergeant Nigel Coupe, 33, of 1st Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, was killed alongside Corporal Jake Hartley, 20, Private Anthony Frampton, 20, Private Christopher Kershaw, 19, Private Daniel Wade, 20, all of 3rd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment.

Cpl Hartley was from New Mill and Pte Frampton from Longwood

Mr Marsden said his son and Wilf had been like "brothers" and his daughter felt like she was his big sister and so he had felt compelled to create something for them to remember him by.

The three-and-a-half minute long film, played over poignant ballad Danny Boy, shows the tragic soldier's last few messages to his friends and how he was looking forward to coming home.
