FORMER soldier Mick Hanson was so moved by the deaths of the six soldiers he organised a golf tournament to raise charity cash.

Everyone who played at Bradley Park Golf Club yesterday took part in the tournament with all proceeds going to the Yorkshire Regiment Charitable Trust.

Mick, of Batley, served in the Royal Signals for 10 years.

“I came up with the idea on Thursday night,’’ he said. “People play regularly on Sundays at Bradley Park so I thought I’d turn the day into a tournament with an entrance fee of £5 for members and £2.50 for non-members. People have been very generous.’’

Golf clubs and restaurants have donated free rounds and meals as prizes and there was also a raffle to boost the amount.

Mick said: “We also had some ‘hidden prizes’ too. All four professionals at Bradley Park donated lessons so the person with the worst score on the day will have won a free lesson to brush up on their skills.’’

Mick was helped by his 15-year-old daughter, Holly, and Shaune Molliville who is a non-playing member at Bradley.
