A MAN accused of a drive-by shooting in Newsome has been remanded in custody.

Kevin Wilson, 37, of Oakenbank Crescent, Lowerhouses, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates in Huddersfield yesterday charged with firearms offences.

The charge read at court said: “You are charged with possessing a firearm in Ruth Street Huddersfield with intent to cause unlawful violence.”

Prosecutor Linda Fowler told the court: “The charge relates to a shooting on Monday, March 26, in a residential area of Huddersfield.

“The defendant was arrested and questioned about the matter.”

The court heard the gun involved in the incident has not been found.

Police sealed off Ruth Street on Monday at around 3.15pm after a single shot was fired from a silver car.

The victim, a 33-year-old man, was uninjured in the incident.

A bail application was refused by District Judge Marie Mallon, who ordered the defendant to be remanded in custody.

The case will next be heard at Kirklees Magistrates sitting in Huddersfield on April 5.
