Youngsters from five Holme Valley schools learn about what it is like to be blind.

MORE than 100 children from five Holme Valley schools experienced what it was like to be blind.

The Holmfirth and Meltham Lions brought the youngsters together with blind and partially-sighted people and their guide dogs.

The event, at Holmfirth Cricket Club, celebrated the Lions’ donation of £800 to Guide Dogs for the Blind.

But they also introduced a range of activities for the youngsters – which included filling a jug with water while blindfolded and taking part in a quiz – in braille.

Lions’ president Steve O’Leary said the event had proved very successful.

The schools involved were: Holmfirth, Upperthong, Netherthong, Holme and Hinchliffe Mill.
