ARTISTS have brightened up Huddersfield Railway Station.
Paintings have been installed inside the Grade I- listed landmark building.
A new collective known as Art Station filled the concourse.
The group’s first exhibition includes work by 12 of its 20 members.
A series of month-long new exhibitions are planned into next year, along with live music, drama and film.
Linthwaite film-maker Beverley Addy, 42, whose work is hung below the schedule screens, said: “Taking art out of galleries and putting it in front of the public is a great thing.
“What a wonderful venue and amazing opportunity for local artists to get their work seen by so many people.
“Even as the first exhibition was being installed the passengers were really interested in the art.”
Some 15,000 passengers pass through the railway station every day.
Mirfield artist Andrew Warburton, 46, said: “I like people watching and it was especially nice to watch people looking at the art.”
Jane Galvin, 62, of Slaithwaite, has hung her work in the waiting room.
She said: “I find the idea of exhibiting at Huddersfield Station really quite exciting and an opportunity to showcase my work to Huddersfield at large.”
Huddersfield Railway Station is owned by Kirklees Council which leases the building to First Trans-Pennine Express.
Station team leader William Bolt said: “I’m delighted with the work that has gone up for this first exhibition and if anything I’d like to see even more art up each time.
“If it works for the artists, it works for us.”
Other artists exhibiting this month are Kevin Threfall, Damien Clark, Shaun T Hunter, Paul Walsh, Jane Platts, Dan Booth, Carla Lee, Trafford Parsons and Andrew Dunne.
