Faith group celebrates Queen Jubilee and 50 years in the town
THE town’s Ahmadiyya Muslim Association held a double celebration at Huddersfield Town Hall – to mark both the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and 50 years of the Association in the town.
The hall was packed with different faith leaders, guests and members of the community, including Stan Hardy, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, who read a message from the Queen sending her best wishes for the event. Special prayers were said and a cheque for £500 was presented to the Queen’s charity.
Fatih ul Haq, the Association’s president, said: “The Queen has served us during her 60 glorious years. She presides over a nation that allows freedom of speech and permits others to embrace, practice and propagate whatever religion they may subscribe to.” The event also featured a display of the 50 years of achievements of the Association in Huddersfield. An exhibition showed the range of humanity work done by members. Mr Haq said: “We have tried to promote community cohesion and peace in all levels.”
