A WOMAN with mental health problems killed herself shortly after her brother threatened to stab her.

Sarah Payne, 22, from Thornhill was found dead in her bedroom at her mother’s home on Mountain Crescent on June 26, 2011.

She had slashed her wrist and taken a cocktail of drugs, including anti-depressants and painkillers.

Two days earlier her brother Philip had texted her death threats and was arrested after he tried to get into family’s home.

He had also left threatening posts on her Facebook page, including “tick tock, tick tock” and “coming to get you”.

He was later convicted of threatening to kill his sister at Leeds Crown Court and given a 12 month community order.

He was not charged with any link to Sarah’s death.

At an inquest into her death, Huddersfield Coroner’s Court heard that Sarah had a long history of mental health issues, including hallucinations of an axe killer and of a little girl.

She had attempted to take her own life twice in 2010 and had been referred for psychiatric care, but had failed to attend her appointments.

Her mother, Joanne Payne, told the court, Sarah had been sexually assaulted as a child by a man who was later jailed for the offence.

She said on the night of her death, Sarah had seemed happy as she left to go out at a local club.

But a few hours later she noticed she had missed four calls from her daughter. She attempted to ring her back but got no answer.

She left the club and on her return home found her daughter face down on her bedroom floor.

Coroner, Professor Paul Marks, ruled the combination of her mental health issues and her personal history had led her to kill herself but he said there was no link between the death threats and her death.
