Huddersfield woman wins invitation to Queen’s Diamond Jubilee party at Buckingham Palace
ONE has sat on the throne and reigned supreme – the other lives in Huddersfield and works for a firm of solicitors.
But they will both be celebrating 60-year landmarks at Buckingham Palace.
Salendine Nook woman Pam Smith, will celebrate her 60th birthday on Monday, June 4 – the same day the Queen hosts her Diamond Jubilee celebrations at the royal residence.
And lucky Pam will be joining the Queen for tea and sandwiches, having won herself an invitation to the exclusive Diamond Jubilee garden party and concert.
More than 1.2m people applied for the 5,000 tickets and Pam said she felt very lucky to have the invitation from the Queen in her hand.
She said: “I heard about it on the One Show. I never win anything but I thought it’s my birthday, I’ll give it a try.
“Just before Easter I got a phone call from the BBC saying I hadn’t replied to their email and then when I went online to accept my ticket it said I’d missed the deadline.
“I was gutted as I thought I had missed it but then I found out they had extended the deadline so I was over the moon.
“All my friends are extremely jealous, it’s the concert of a lifetime.”
Pam will be taking her husband Gordon to the regal event and said she hopes to meet some dames and sirs.
She added: “I’m a great fan of the royal family, I think it’s fantastic for the country.
“What a year for them and the country!”
