A HIKER from Halifax who suffered life-threatening injuries when he was trampled by cows is in a "stable" condition, his rescuers have confirmed.
The 46-year-old man suffered a fractured skull and chest injuries in the incident, which happened at around noon on Thursday, the Great North Air Ambulance said.
Air ambulance paramedic Jane Peacock, who responded to the call near Barnard Castle, County Durham, said: "He and his wife were just walking on a public footpath when they were attacked by cows.
"He climbed over a stile on to the other side of the stone wall, then he just collapsed.
"How he’s got out alive, I do not know."
The man was flown to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he was described as "stable" on Friday by an air ambulance spokesman.
