Holmfirth bank worker Sarah Whitworth raises £10,000 ahead of Mt Kilimanjaro climb

CUSTOMERS of a Huddersfield bank who bought cupcakes as they deposited money have helped raise £10,000.

Yorkshire Bank on New Street in Huddersfield were selling cupcakes yesterday in aid of bank worker Sarah Whitworth’s charity appeal.

Next week she will climb Mt Kilimanjaro and was just £200 short of her £5,000 fundraising bid, so Yorkshire Bank staff sold cakes and held a raffle to get her to the £5,000 figure.

As her employer matches what she’s raised, £10,000 will be donated to her chosen charity – Kirkwood Hospice.

Sarah said: “I had a few cupcakes myself but we were selling them to customers and selling raffle tickets.

“The bank matches what we raise so I wanted to get to the £5,000 figure and I’m happy we did. I’m feeling a bit nervous about the climb, it will take five days to climb up and two to get back down.

“I’ve done all I can now I just need to go out there and do it.”

Sarah, of Holmfirth, has already jumped out of a plane for charity and she will scale 5,895 metres to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro.
