TINCHY Stryder wowed thousands of fans in Huddersfield's Greenhead Park last night – just 90 minutes after nipping to a Huddersfield pub disguised as himself.

The Creative and Media School at Netherhall produced thousands of masks of the top-selling artist for yesterday’s Party in the Park.

Tinchy liked them so much that he put one on to nip over to The Junction at Marsh an hour and a half before he went on stage at Greenhead Park.

The former Wimbledon youth team player told the Examiner: “I had my Tinchy mask on and two of my friends had theirs on. I think they look cool.

“We wanted to watch some of the Spain versus Italy game in the pub but unfortunately it was half-time when we got there and then we had to go back.”

Speaking just before going on stage, Tinchy said he was looking forward to the gig.

“This is my first time in Huddersfield. I could feel the good energy and the vibe when we were coming in,” he said.

Tinchy added that playing outdoor gigs was a different challenge.

“When it’s indoors it gets a bit more intimate but there’s a different vibe when you’re outdoors,” he said.

“I change my set every now and then but I always decide what I’m going to do differently not long before I go on. Performing is never too planned or rehearsed.”

Georgia Dewhirst, 15, of Halifax was excited after winning a competition to interview Tinchy before he went on stage.

“He was lovely,” she said.

“I was a bit nervous at first but he’s a lovely person and he’s really easy to talk to.”

Vince Kidd, who reached the semi-finals of BBC One show The Voice, also performed at yesterday’s Party in the Park, which was the culmination of three days of free musical performances.

Speaking after coming off-stage, he said: “It was really good, it was nice to go out there and see the people. The atmosphere was fantastic.
