Learner driver in court after moving car for a friend

AN UNLICENSED driver was hauled before magistrates after moving a car on to his driveway as a favour.

Anton Macfarlane, of Loxley Street in Batley, appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

A previous hearing at the Huddersfield court had determined that he had driven without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said that Macfarlane was spotted driving a car at Healey Lane in Batley on January 7.

Police were called after the 20-year-old moved the car onto his driveway.

He admitted that he was not the owner of the car and had no insurance.

Macfarlane also told police that he didn’t have a full driving licence and the vehicle was seized.

He told magistrates that he was moving the car from the road on to his driveway as a favour for a friend.

Magistrates endorsed his licence with eight penalty points, banning him from driving for six months.

Macfarlane was also ordered to pay £110 fine, £85 court costs and £15 victim surcharge.
