THOUSANDS turned out for a ‘quacking’ time in Holmfirth – despite the rain.

Plastic ducks were released into the River Holme for the annual duck race.

The event, which is organised by Pendragon Round Table, raises more than £10,000 for good causes.

This year, money was being donated to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney was invited to release the ducks with his daughters Daisy, eight, and Eleanor, six.

He said: “It’s a brilliant event, one of the best attended. The centre was jam-packed, probably the best turn out it’s ever had.

“I’ve been to one before but never helped launch it and my daughters were very excited to be involved and sitting in the digger.

“I think there would be a storm of protest if my duck won, but it’s a great event and the organisers put a lot of work into it.”

Stalls and attractions on the field at Sands recreation ground were also included in the fun.

The winning duck to scoop the £1,000 prize was number 720. The second prize was 1298 and the third 2035.
