RELATIVES of a man slashed across the face in a terrifying knife attack have revealed the extent of his injuries.

Simon Mitchell, 39, needed a blood transfusion after attempting to fight off his attacker.

Mr Mitchell was attacked in Huddersfield Road, Mirfield, near the Railway pub, at 8.20pm on Wednesday.

His uncle Gerard Hollingworth, 53, told the Examiner that Mr Mitchell had been slashed from his eyebrow to his jaw.

He also suffered slash wounds and cuts to his back, neck, arms and hands. He underwent surgery yesterday at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

His condition remained “stable”, said police.

Mr Mitchell was with a group of other men in Huddersfield Road when a car pulled up, and three or four men got out.

There was a chase and Mr Mitchell was attacked with what was believed to be a Stanley knife.

He collapsed on a grass verge outside the Royd Court sheltered housing complex and two staff from inside used towels to stem the bleeding until paramedics arrived.
