ORGANISERS of this year’s Huddersfield Race for Life have announced a new date to get the event back on track.

The women-only 5k event, which was cancelled on Sunday due to bad weather, will now take place on Saturday September 1.

About 2,600 women are expected to descend on Leeds Road Playing Fields for the run, which last year raised £145,000 for Cancer Research UK.

Huddersfield Race for Life event manager Helen Webster, said: “Due to the recent wet weather, Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events in Huddersfield on Sunday July 8 had to be postponed.

“We are very sorry for any disappointment and inconvenience this caused. The health and safety of our participants had to come first so we hope that everyone understands why we had to take this decision.

“Working with Kirklees Council we have acted as quickly as possible to reorganise a new date.”

Participants who have already registered do not need to do anything as their pack and entry number will still be valid.

The event will still have two time slots of 10.30am and 2pm.
