A BBC programme is set to focus on what makes Huddersfield folk tick.

BBC series Town, by the makers of popular BBC2 show Coast, has been filming around our town over the past week.

The series celebrates the towns around Britain and explores what makes them interesting.

It last aired in 2011 with episodes about Ludlow in Shropshire, Scarborough, Perth in Scotland and Totnes in Devon.

Now Huddersfield is set to feature in the next series of the show.

Presenter Nicholas Crane has delved into the history of the area and has visited places of interest, including the Tolson Museum and the George Hotel.

The programme also investigates important historical figures and events such as Harold Wilson, the Ramsden family, the founding of the Rugby League and the history of Huddersfield Town AFC.

Programme makers have also interviewed key groups, including members of the Huddersfield Town Supporters’ Association.

Association member Dave Schofield, said Mr Crane had visited their base at Mill Bridge WMC to grill the die-hard fans about their loyalty to the club.

Dave said: “The programme is about Huddersfield as a town, and a proportion of that will be about the football club.

“For us this represents a large part of what Huddersfield is.

“They’ve filmed us as supporters talking about our loyalty to Huddersfield Town, why we started supporting them, going back to our grand-dads and the history down the line.

“We also spoke about recent successes and what makes us follow Town.”

The series has focussed on many towns across the country.

A BBC spokesman said: “We live in one of the most urbanised countries on earth. By 2030 a staggering 92% of us will be living the urban life.

“Congested cities sprawl across our map, but they are not the only way to live. Smaller than a city, more intimate, more surprising: this series celebrates the forgotten world of the town.”
