RELATIVES and friends of Huw Thatcher cycled 43 miles to raise cash in memory of the young sportsman.

Some 45 riders completed a tour of cricket grounds around Holme Valley, Shepley, Emley, Lepton and Almondbury on Saturday to raise money for the Huw Thatcher Trust.

Huw, a promising cricketer and all-round sportsman from Holmfirth, died aged 15 from an undiagnosed brain aneurysm after collapsing at a junior football match in Brighouse last March.

The ride raised about £1,000 for the trust set up by Huw’s dad Nick and sister Carys, 15, who both took part in the second annual ride for the former Holmfirth High School pupil.

The trust, which has held numerous fundraising sports events, has raised thousands of pounds on behalf of the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.

Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney joined riders on the first stage of the run from Huw’s former club, Upperthong Cricket Club.
