FOOD-lovers are also being treated to a chilling mix of ghoulish tales designed to reveal what lurks in Huddersfield.

A ghost-walk – named Shuddersfield – is taking place three times a day during Huddersfield’s Food and Drink Festival to give visitors an insight into the town’s history.

The hour-long tours take ghost-hunters on a spooky trail focusing on the train station, parish church, Lawrence Batley Theatre, Mechanics Institute, former Zetland Hotel and the old Cloth Hall.

Rebecca Legg, of Chol Theatre – based at the LBT – said: “The town has got a lot of history. The cellar theatre at LBT, for example, used to be a crypt. It is a bit creepy down there and when you talk to cleaners, managers and performers, they all say they have seen some strange things.

“There is nothing really terrifying though, it is more eery.”

The tour is suitable for children over 8 and leaves at 2pm, 6pm and 8.30pm until Sunday from the festival’s information stall in St George’s Square.

It costs £3 or £2 for concessions.
