A HUDDERSFIELD teenager spent two weeks helping at hospitals in South America.

Greenhead College student Alakhiwe Ndlovu, 17, visited six medical centres in the Argentinean city of Cordoba.

The Dalton teenager was among a group of 36 young people from around the world who took part in the Projects Abroad visit to the country.

Alakhiwe said: “We were watching surgery and visiting wards.

“Sometimes we were given tasks like checking pulses and listening to heart rates.

“The doctors explained how to perform the tasks and what the results meant.”

Alakhiwe added that he was impressed by the professionalism of the staff.

He said: “They didn’t have as much technology but the doctors were highly professional and very good at their jobs.”

Alakhiwe is doing A levels in psychology, sociology and politics and hopes to go on to study clinical psychology at university.

He said: “I found the whole experience of being in a different culture so enlightening.”
