A MIRFIELD man has appeared in court accused of sexual assault using a vibrator.

Rehman Ali, of Calder House in Newgate, appeared before Kirklees magistrates yesterday.

He is accused of touching a woman without her consent on September 4.

James Gelsthorpe, prosecuting, said that the woman was known to Ali.

He said he was at her address when he pulled a vibrator from his jacket pocket.

The 34-year-old is then alleged to have used it to rub across the woman’s breasts and clothing.

He is also alleged to have tried to push the sex toy into her mouth and up her nightdress.

Mr Gelsthorpe described the woman as ‘vulnerable’.

He said: “The prosecution would say that this is not suitable for summary trial given the seriousness of the allegations against a vulnerable victim.”

Ali denies the charge.

Magistrates told him that he will eventually face trial at Leeds Crown Court.

He will first appear before the Huddersfield court again on October 4. Magistrates remanded him in custody until that date.

*We have been asked to point out that when Mr Ali appeared at Leeds Crown Court on December 18, 2012, the Crown Prosecution Service offered no evidence against him and a formal not guilty verdict was recorded.*
