ARSONISTS targeted a disused building in the Colne Valley yesterday.

Firefighters were called to the former Spectrum Yarns at New Street in Slaithwaite at 10.30am.

Two crews from Huddersfield and one from Marsden spent an hour bringing the blaze under control.

Huddersfield fire station watch commander Chris Bell said: “Someone had broken in and set fire to a wall on the first floor.

“If the flames had gone through it could have been quite bad.’’

Watch commander Bell urged parents to make sure their children keep away from disused buildings.

“Children shouldn’t play in these buildings as there may be holes in the floors,’’ he said.
