EMERGENCY workers have finally been able to confirm no-one was inside a house ripped apart by a fierce blaze.

They had to wait more than 36 hours after the blaze to get inside and carry out a search, because the Moldgreen house had been left in a dangerous condition.

Police and fire investigators finally entered the home on Mount Zion Road yesterday afternoon and were able to search every room.

Firefighters had been unable to get into the house off Kilner Bank due to the intense flames.

After the fire was extinguished, the home was judged to be structurally unsound to enter.

Engineers were at the house yesterday morning, using a cherry-picker to inspect the roof.

Workers and heavy equipment were also in place at the entrance to Mount Zion Road on Kilner Bank.

Police were guarding the scene but firefighters were no longer present.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Officers from the police and the fire service were able to carry out a search of the property yesterday afternoon.

“Every room in the house had been badly affected by the fire but the officers were able to establish that no-one had been inside when the fire started.

“We had to wait until engineers had made the building safe to get inside and until the heat from the fire had gone.

“We still do not know the cause of the fire and the investigation is now being carried out by police and the fire investigators.”

Crews from Huddersfield and Elland fire stations had been called to the semi-detached house at 1.50am on Monday.

Fire crews remained at the scene for several hours.
