HUDDERSFIELD poet Donovan Christopher opened a new library in a Colne Valley school.

An old storage room at Cowlersley Primary School has been transformed into a community library with more than 2,000 books thanks to a grant of £10,000 from the Foyle Foundation.

Lee Bray, enrichment activities co-ordinator at the school, said: “Donovan specialises in rap poetry and it was an inspiration for the children to see how poetry works and how he was influenced by reading books as a child.

“He worked with the Year 4, 5 and 6 children and they thought he was brilliant; the feedback was really positive”.
