A WOMAN returned home to find her partner hanged from the loft, an inquest was told.

Simon Paul Montgomery was found dead at his home in Highroyd, Lepton on June 12 this year.

His partner Deborah Donoghue gave a statement to Coroner Peter Straker which was read at his inquest held in Huddersfield yesterday.

She told how she had gone to work as a shop assistant on the morning of June 12 and phoned her partner twice during the course of the day when he sounded ‘fine’.

But when she returned home at 8.25pm she found him.

The court was told how Mr Montgomery had been diagnosed with epilepsy 12 years ago and suffered from fits and pseudo fits.

He had also taken medication for depression and anxiety.

A note was found with the deceased.

Coroner Straker told the court he was unable to record that Mr Montgomery intended to take his own life.

Instead he recorded a narrative verdict, saying: “Simon Paul Montgomery died as a result of self harm. There was no evidence of intent as the required standard to return a verdict of suicide.”

He expressed the court’s sympathy to Mr Montgomery’s partner Deborah and family.
