A SHOW of strength was put on by campaigners fighting Shelley College’s expansion plan.
Headteacher, John McNally, has said he wants the college to start accepting 11 and 12-year-olds.
But campaigners fear it will undermine the Shelley Pyramid – a group of 20 local schools – and threaten the future of Kirkburton and Scissett middle schools.
More than 300 protesters gathered outside MP Simon Reevell’s Conservative Party office in Denby Dale yesterday morning, angry at the secondary school’s plans.
A large group of protesters also assembled in Kirkburton.
One protester, Scissett Middle School teacher, Vicky Ward, said the group had demonstrated the strength of feeling against the proposal.
She said: “We were absolutely delighted with the support, it was fantastic that staff, parents, past parents and future parents all turned out in force."
A full report will be in Monday's Examiner.
