A DISGRUNTLED shopkeeper has complained about a rival’s advertising campaign.

Christopher Blakey, who runs The Paper Shop in Greetland, wasn’t too concerned when the Co-op opened a new store 200 yards away.

After all, his shop had been trading in Stainland Road for more than 40 years and had recently acquired one of the new local Post Office outlets.

But what left him fuming was the fact that the Co-op’s mobile advertising hoarding proved not to be too mobile – parking up right outside his shop on a busy Saturday.

“He left his vehicle there for at least 30 minutes while he went off for his lunch.

“We have only a few parking spaces outside our shop and this vehicle took up three of them at one of the busiest times on our busiest day of the week.

“I appreciate the Co-op are free to open wherever they like, but I feel the marketing campaign left a lot to be desired.”

A spokesperson for The Co-operative Food, said: “We carried out a range of promotional activity in Greetland to let shoppers know about our new food store which opened on Thursday, October 18.

“This included a tour of the local area by a Co-operative Food van, which parked in different locations throughout the day. We apologise if this vehicle caused any inconvenience.”
