MINDLESS vandals have caused ‘carnage’ on a Lockwood allotment – including shooting poultry.

The devastation was discovered by Sharon Corcoran, who has kept chickens and ducks on the Taylor Hill Road allotment for five years.

During a routine trip to check on her poultry she discovered six chickens had been stolen in a special carrier.

Other allotments were also turned over and greenhouses and sheds broken into.

And a day later she found a duck and a chicken had been shot dead.

She said: “I know at least six white chickens have been stolen. I have a special carrier to take them to auction and that was taken too.

“Those responsible have just gone on a rampage across the whole allotments but I am the only one who keeps livestock.”

She said she had been unable to check with other allotment holders whether they had anything stolen

“It makes you think why are you bothering if someone can just come along and do something like this.

“It’s just cruel that people get their kicks out of killing animals.

“They should stop selling these BB guns as they get into the wrong hands and people are going out and shooting dogs, cats and birds.”

Sharon has reported the incidents, which happened on October 20 and 21, to West Yorkshire Police .

The attack comes two years after a revival of the Lockwood Church Association with a £3,000 cash injection to revamp tired allotment plots.

The funds came from Kirklees Council Grass Roots grants and enabled the association to install water facilities, lay a new access track and build a shelter.

News of the damage follows a raid by thieves at pigeon lofts in Netherton a few days ago.

Pigeon racers were left devastated after the raiders stole more than 125 of their birds worth thousands of pounds.

The thieves raided the pigeon lofts off Meltham Road over the weekend and the victims believe the raid may have taken as long as 90 minutes.
