THE consultation document published this week by Shelley College is just another school prospectus, it is claimed.

And even then it is promising nothing more than what is already on offer in the area’s two middle schools

That’s the reaction from parents’ pressure group Keep Shelley Pyramid.

Spokesman Simon Pocock, of Skelmanthorpe, who has two children in pyramid schools said: “There is no substance to the document and what they are promising is already being delivered in the middle schools to an exceptionally high standard.

“Scissett is generally regarded as the top performing middle school in the country. According to Ofsted, the two middle schools are delivering Year 9 children to Shelley one full year ahead of the national average.”

He disputed the statistics in the Shelley document which implied that teaching was below par in the middle schools, adding the academy had conveniently left out the independent grades which really mattered – the Ofsted results.

Mr Pocock, 40, a performance development consultant, said the Shelley statistics “make no sense at all.”

He added: “Mr McNally continues to try and bully us by refusing to guarantee us admission for our children in Year 9. On the other side, he says he is all about improving choice.

“I urge every parent to voice their concern. Parent power is the only thing which will stop Shelley and Michael Gove (Secretary of State for Education) riding roughshod over what is right for this community.

“It is not just this generation of children who will potentially be crammed into a mega 200-pupil school, it is future generations as well.

“Everything about this proposal is utterly wrong.”

The Keep Shelley Facebook page now has 1,500 Likes and the group has organised a mass protest march for Saturday.

They are expecting at least 500 people to turn up at 11.45am at Skelmanthorpe Cricket Club, Lidgett Lane, for a two-mile march which will take them past Shelley College.

The march will end with a family day at the cricket club at 2pm.
