BRING back the fast bus route to Huddersfield!

That’s the message from Holme Valley bus users ahead of a public meeting tomorrow on proposals to develop bus routes in the area.

Results from the Holme Valley Bus Review, carried out last spring, revealed that 70% of those consulted wanted either the fast service to Huddersfield back or a link to medical facilities at Holme Valley Memorial Hospital.

The previous express X10 service from Holmfirth to Huddersfield was axed in 2009.

A number of other cutbacks to valley routes were imposed during 2010.

Now ahead of the formal publication of the review in January, Metro has confirmed it is considering reinstating a half-hourly express route.

It also hopes to offer four buses per hour (310, H5 and 313) passing the Holme Valley Memorial Hospital in both directions, with the H5 going into the grounds.

Metro also plans to re-jig timetables in a bid to improve links between routes.

But with no extra cash available the changes will have a negative impact on other services. Proposals are to cut two village’s direct links to Huddersfield – Netherthong and Oldfield – and reduce Thongsbridge’s service to one an hour.

Meanwhile, Kirklees Council is also planning on developing Holmfirth bus station into a “Transport Hub”.

Details of the proposal and the bus routes will be discussed at the Holme Valley Area Committee at Holmfirth Civic Hall at 7pm tomorrow.
