AS little piggies they were saved from going to market.... but now it would appear their days in a Scissett field are numbered too.

Jaclyn Haggata is jetting off to Australia in a few months time with her husband Russell and their 10-year-old son Hayden.

But the Scissett family cannot go the whole hog until homes are found for their six beloved pigs.

Jaclyn initially took on a trio of porkers - Ugly Betty, Beth and Jen - nearly four years ago but since then the herd has doubled in size as they kept two of 12 piglets and adopted another male pig.

With quarantine laws there is no chance of shipping the older prize porkers to sunnier climes.

Jaclyn, 48, a social worker said: “My husband has accepted a job in Australia and so we have three months to find homes for the six pigs.

“We had sheep and ponies and have been lucky that great sanctuaries have taken them on but we haven’t found anywhere for the pigs.”

But whatever happens Jaclyn is adamant the pigs will not make a crackling addition to a family Christmas dinner, adding: “They are loveable pets.

“We saved three of them from being shot once before and I have been told by a farmer they are too old now and there would be too much fat on them.

“He said they would only be good for sausages, which I wouldn’t let happen. They are worth more to us than that.

“They are very sensitive animals. They all have their own personalities. They weigh about a tonne so if they stand on your foot you’ll know about it.”

Jaclyn took on caring for the pigs when they lived in Cornwall but she said her whole family, even her 80-year-old mother Frances, enjoys having them around.
