A WIND turbine has been rejected due to its proximity to a school.
Councillors said it was a site visit which made them realise David Woodhead’s application for a 15m wind turbine was unsuitable for the location.
Mr Woodhead had applied for permission for the turbine at 159 Lane Head Road, Shepley. It would generate electricity for his property with the rest fed into the National Grid.
The site is 385m from the Shepley Conservation Area, near to Shepley First School and a listed property.
Councillors seemed uncertain about the plan. Clr Darren O’Donovan said: “I’m usually in favour of wind turbines, the sustainability, but this is a domestic property, if it was sustaining a business I’d be in favour.”
Clr Andrew Pinnock added: “I don’t know where I sit, there will be feed-in energy so the wider community will benefit.”
Chair Clr Paul Kane said: “In normal circumstances I would support generating energy, but looking at it from the school, it was absolutely dominant.”
Some 257 people objected to the plan via a petition and letters.
