COUNCILLORS on the planning committee will be asked to make a decision about a controversial restaurant plan.

Ganex Investments Ltd has applied for consent to turn a former DIY store and Lodges supermarket off Westbourne Road in Marsh into a restaurant.

The application was deferred at the last Huddersfield planning Sub-Committee meeting at the request of council leader, Clr Mehboob Khan, who wanted to speak but had a prior meeting.

Kirklees planning officers have recommended the application for the 120-seat restaurant for approval.

A petition with 500 comments and signatures was submitted – 465 against the proposal, 23 signatures and comments in support and 12 comments with no contact details meaning they are discounted.

Concerns raised relate to noise and disruption, impact on highways, loss of parking in Marsh and disruption to residents of Syringa Street.

The application is expected to be heard at 1pm on Thursday this week at Huddersfield Town Hall.
