WE’RE a lucky lot in Huddersfield.

The town has had one of the biggest numbers of big National Lottery winners in West Yorkshire, based on the number of people living in the area.

Only Wakefield has a higher winning ratio, and Huddersfield punters have a better chance than people in Leeds, Halifax or Bradford.

The town has also seen 12 Lottery millionaires created since the draws began in November 1994, although most have remained anonymous.

One who didn’t of course, was Holmfirth teenager Stacey Bywater .

The 18-year-old full-time nursery nurse from Scholes saw her life changed in August 2010 – after scooping a massive £1,117,779 on the National Lottery.

But the millionaire jackpot lifestyle didn’t kick in straight away – Stacey turned in for work as usual on Monday and Tuesday.

The National Lottery has today confirmed that the streets of Yorkshire are paved with gold after it revealed the top 10 luckiest postcodes in the region.

Huddersfield is the fifth luckiest postcode in Yorkshire and the second in West Yorkshire, according to the statistics which are based on the number of major prizes (£50k plus) won per person since The National Lottery began.

The research also revealed that a total of 114 people from the HD postcode area have scooped prizes of more than £50k, including 12 locals who have become instant millionaires.

The district came ahead of neighbours Leeds, Halifax and Bradford. Doncaster, which boasts the highest number of winners in the region, came top. In Halifax, here have been five Lottery millionaires since the draws started.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “About 30 major prizes are won nationally each week, and with more than 3,200 Lottery millionaires across the UK, nearly everyone will have a lucky winner in their neighbourhood.”
