A CRIME-HIT allotments site could soon be secured.

Councillors will be asked to approve £10,000 to fund a security fence for Field Lane allotments in Ravensthorpe.

The allotments have deteriorated over a number of years with plot holders trying to maintain a secure site using improvised materials.

A council report says a number of plot holders suffering thefts of horticultural machinery and also suffering from the theft and slaughter of some of their livestock.

They hope a 1.8-metre fence will deter thieves but it will cost £19,254.88.

Capital funding of £5,000 and labour to the value of £4,254.88 will be allocated from Streetscene Parks. The Dewsbury Area Committee is asked to fund the remaining cost.

They’ll consider the funding at Thursday’s meeting at 7pm at Dewsbury Town Hall.
