TWO suspected attempted child abductions are being investigated by police in Huddersfield.

And both involve young girls who said they were approached by strangers.

Officers from Kirkburton and Denby Dale Neighbourhood Policing Team have received two separate reports in the past week in villages near Huddersfield.

The first saw a white man in his 50s beckon a seven-year-old girl over to his car as she played alone in Upper Denby last Friday afternoon.

The girl ran to her house and told her parents.

The man, who was bald and wearing glasses, was seen driving off in a red Hyundai estate.

Two days later a man asked an eight-year-old girl who was playing on her bike to get in his van.

She refused and rode off to safety.

The second incident happened at Greenfield Crescent at Grange Moor .

The suspicious man is described as having “coloured skin”.

Neither girl was harmed in any way and both have been spoken to by police officers.

Insp Dave Barnett said no-one had been arrested and inquiries were ongoing.

He said: “All the information we have been given by the girls has been investigated thoroughly over the last few days.

“There have been no further reported incidents.

“All schools in the area have been informed and offered ‘Stranger Danger’ classroom work by the team at Kirkburton to reinforce the message.

“Both girls did exactly the right thing by getting out of the situation and telling an adult, which is very encouraging.

“Please ensure your child knows what to do should they find themselves in a similar situation.

“If you have any information about these incidents, or anything similar which has happened over the last few days but not reported, please get in touch with us.

“You can call us at Kirkburton on 01484 436898, the non-emergency number is 101 or email us on ea.kirkburtonnpt@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk”
